One Simple Way to Inspire Your Kids

September 3, 2017

There is nothing like a good book to get your child's imagination going, but too often books don't represent the community as a whole. We recommend encouraging your child to read books that embrace diversity to truly help them expand their minds! Here's a list to get you started:

Read about someone of another race! Try the board book "Happy to be Nappy" by Bell Hooks and Christopher Raschka or the chapter book "Miles Morales: A Spiderman Novel" by Jason Reynolds

Read about someone from another country! Try the picture book "Mama's Nightingale: A Story of Immigration and Separation" by Edwidge Danticat and Leslie Staub or the chapter book "Amina's Voice" by Hena Khan.

Read about someone with different abilities! Try the picture book "Be A Friend" by Salina Yoon or the chapter book "Wonder" by R J Palacio

Read about someone who loves different people! Try the picture book "And Tango Makes Three" by Henry Cole or the chapter book "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda" by Becky Albertalli
