The Great Country Farms Community Supported Agriculture Shares Are Ideal for Families Looking to add more Healthy, Local Fruits and Veggies to their Diet.

Great Country Farms (GCF), now celebrating its 23rd season, is offering memberships to its award winning Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Each CSA membership includes 20 weekly shares of sustainably-grown fruits and vegetables, plus an all-access pass to GCF for the season, with pick-your-own discounts, and opportunities to learn about sustainable farming and healthy eating.

"Kids are much more likely to enjoy their veggies when they help pick and prepare them," said Kate Zurschmeide, the farm's co-owner. "Our CSA includes a unique pick-your-own bonus, starting with strawberries in May, which allows families to experience a bit of farm life and really connect with their how their food is grown and with the farmers growing it."

The orchards at GCF add another unique facet to the CSA program. With tart cherries in June, peaches, plums, and apricots in summer, and several varieties of apples in the fall, there is an abundant variety of fruit in GCF's CSA shares.

Joining a CSA is a learning experience that includes new ways of meal planning and preparation. It harkens back to a time when families relished fresh produce and included preservation (freezing, canning, pickling, fermenting) in their cooking routines.  GCF provides a weekly newsletter to support members in their food adventure, and the farm has partnered with local food expert Marla Vargas-Mundey of LAJ Foods, who promotes clean, plant-based eating. Marla will show members the delicious things she's doing with her weekly share.

"Our goal is help our members enjoy every item that arrives in their weekly share," said Mark Dewey, CSA Manager.
