Summer is the best time for kids to get lost on a literary journey. But where to start? We’ve found the best resources from across the Web to help children of all ages find the summer stories that’ll keep them hooked and happy.
Figment is a community where your teens can share their writing, connect with other readers and discover new stories and authors.
Goodreads is perfect for helping parents and kids find, share, review and recommend the books they love. You can even set and track personal reading goals for you and your kids.
Scholastic’s newest site, The Stacks, is a great place for kids and teens to create profiles and interact with other kids about books, authors, etc., in a safe environment.
The Children’s Book Review is devoted to children’s literacy and publishes reviews and book lists of the best books for kids of all ages. They also produce author and illustrator interviews and share articles with tips and tricks that’ll help parents grow readers.
PBS Book Finder features a slew of books for kids up to the third grade to read and even allows kids to pick books based on theme and reading ability.
Book Adventure is great for children grades K–8 as it’s a fun, free way to motivate your children
to read. They can search for books, read them offline and then come back to take quizzes on what they’ve read, earning them cool prizes.
Random House Kids provides a wealth of book-related games, activities and videos to get kids hooked on reading. Kids can also go behind the scenes with their favorite authors and find different author events to attend.
For the tough-to-please teen, Amazon offers extensive lists of books for teenagers sorted by category and popularity. They also offer helpful categories like books that have recently gone to the big screen and their editors’ picks.
